I had put up a post earlier requesting support for Anirban Bhattacharya, our PhD student suffering from cancer.
Informing you with a heavy heart that we lost Anirban after a long and valiant fight with cancer. He breathed his last in the ICU of Apollo Hospital Kolkata yesterday evening May 31 2015. In my opinion he was one of the most brilliant PhD students in recent times -- a wonderful, simple, every smiling and humble person, who stayed back in KGP to pursue research in India on a difficult topic. He was close to some very good research results when disease struck him.
Till the very last he used to talk about IITKGP. He considered this his home. He leaves behind two aged and extremely ill parents whom he used to look after. He was their only child.
We would like to thank everyone who supported him in so many ways during this period of great suffering and turmoil. It would have been very difficult to carry out this battle so long without the overwhelming support from all over.
We hope that we will be able to put in something in his memory.
