UPSC result: Bihari candidates once again explode myth
As every year boys and girls from Bihar have done well in the Union Public Service Commission examination 2015. In all 734 candidates have been selected for various central services. The candidates from the state have once again exploded the myth that only Biharis studying out of the state can do better as most of them who qualified have got their entire education in Bihar. In one case two candidates from the same class of Patna University qualified.

Nandkumaram Jha, who has his root in Lagma village of Ghanshyampur block of Darbhanga district, secured eighth, Mita Sarangi from East Champaran district got 15th rank. In fact she secured first among women candidates of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Ranjit Kumar Singh of Phatikwara under Desri police station of Vaishali district secured 49th rank. He vowed not to visit his village unless he qualifies UPSC. Thus the last time he visited the village was six years back. Son of Ram Tahal Singh and Mahadevi Patel he did his schooling from Desri and I Sc from Patna Science College. He did his BA in History from Patna University. While Nandkumaram Jha passed his 10th from DAV School, Deoghar, he got engineering degree in Petroleum from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanabad. Though he secured 240th rank in 2014 he contined to work in the Oil and Natural Gas Commission and tried his luck once again a year later. His father Adyanand Jha is an employee of the Food Corporation of India while his mother is Meena Jha.
Mita is doing her PhD in Sociology from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, where her husband, Kanihar Kant, also works.
Another girl candidate, who did exceedingly well is Neelima. She ranked 23rd. In fact she cleared UPSC last year but could get Indian Audit and Accounts Service. Daughter of retired superintending engineer, Gulab Prasad Shah and Pushpa Devi she did her Inter from Magadh Mahila College, BA from Patna College and MA from Patna University.
Incidentally his class-mate in the PG, Amit Kumar, also secured 89th position. Amit was the
topper in the post-graduation examination. Amit, who did his schooling from Catholic High School, Ara, is the son of Arjun Prasad, deputy secretary, department of finance and Shiv Kumari Devi. He did his graduation from Patna University.
Like Mita there is another boy from East Champaran who cracked the prestigious examination. Kunal Kashyap, who got 371th rank, is the son of a banker, Umesh
Chandra Prasad.

His Family Couldn’t Afford Daily Meal; Today He Is IIT Topper

When the IIT-JEE results came out it was hard for Dhananjay Kumar to hold back his tears. He was crying, because in his eyes appeared the hard work of his mother and father. The dream that he had followed so religiously for years; that dream had been realized finally. Dhananjay is someone who couldn’t buy a new book to study, or go to a private school. He has seen days when there was nothing to eat for dinner in his house. He hadn’t even heard about IIT, before making it to the Super 30 program in Patna. Today, he has made it to IIT and has the option to select the branch of his choice, with such a good rank.

Dhananjay belongs from Samastipur district’s Patori village, where his father had lands by his name. But he would work as a labourer in the village. Being a father of six children, it was hard for him to lead a family with less income. So he left for Gujarat where he worked in a mill. His income increased, but in few years his health started deteriorating. The owner of the mill soon asked him to leave work, handing him Rs. 10,000/- to take care of his children back home. It was a dream of Dhananjay’s mother to make her children study well, although she hadn’t been to school ever.

Dhananjay was studying in the 6th standard in a government school when his father returned home and opened a small shop. His father would wait for customers the whole day, and the days when there were no customers, they had to sleep with empty stomachs.

Dhananjay never let all these circumstances affect his studies. He borrowed books from friends and spent time in the shop when his father’s health deteriorated further. When he got to learn about the Super 30 batch, he filled its form after collecting Rs. 50 for it from his shop. He travelled to Patna on train without a ticket, and started putting all his heart into his dream after he passed the entrance test of Super 30. Dhananjay always stayed ahead in answering questions and even helping his classmates in studies.

When his IIT result came, he was there with Anand Kumar- his teacher who is also the founder of the Super 30 batch. Anand Kumar found him wearing the same shirt and trousers that he wore when he met him for the first time 2 years back. After being asked about it, Dhananjay said; he had only one pair of clothes, in those two years.

The Logical Indian community salutes the courage and determination shown by Dhananjay, as he moved a step closer to his dream. The man who made it possible for Dhananjay to reach his goal is Anand Kumar. This year 25 students from Super-30 program have been selected for the IIT. Congratulations to Anand Kumar and his team.

25 'Super 30' students crack IIT-JEE-2015

They clearly call it 'Super 30' for a reason - 24 students from his 29 cracked IIT this year.  Bihar mathematician Anand Kumar Jha's  Super 30 programme is famed across the country for being the most effective way to crack IIT, especially for students across India who can't afford expensive coaching.
Founded by Anand  Kumar, the highly acclaimed educational programme trains 30 meritorious students from economically backward sections for the IIT-JEE. In the last 7 years, the coaching institute has produced hundreds of IITians hailing from very poor families. Children of rickshaw pullers, landless farmers and roadside vendors have made their parents proud by cracking one of the toughest exams in the country and emerging as successful engineers.
Kumar’s home was the hub of celebration as anxious students burst into smiles when the results of IIT-JEE (Advanced), the entrance examination for IIT was declared. “Their hard work has paid off and Super 30 again proved talent requires nothing but the right encouragement and opportunity to blossom,” the mathematician told.

In 1992, Kumar began teaching Mathematics. He rented a classroom for Rs 500 a month, and began his own institute, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics (RSM). Within the span of year, his class grew from two students to thirty-six, and after three years there were almost 500 students enrolled. Then in early 2000, when a poor student came to him seeking coaching for IIT-JEE, who couldn't afford the annual admission fee due to poverty, Kumar was motivated to start the Super 30 programme in 2002, for which he is now well-known.
Every year in May, since 2002, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics holds a competitive test to select 30 students for the ‘Super 30’ scheme. Many students appear at the test, and eventually he takes thirty intelligent students from economically backward sections, tutors them, and provides study materials and lodging for a year. He prepares them for the Joint Entrance Examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). His mother, Jayanti Devi, cooks for the students, and his brother Pranav Kumar takes care of the management.

During 2003-2014, 308 students out of 360 have made it to the IITs. In 2010, all the students of Super 30 cleared IIT JEE entrance making it a three in a row for the institution. Anand Kumar has no financial support for Super 30 from any government as well as private agencies, and manages on the tuition fee he earns from the Ramanujam Institute. After the success of Super 30 and its growing popularity, he got many offers from the private – both national and international companies - as well as the government for financial help, but he always refused it. He wanted to sustain Super 30 through his own efforts. After three consecutive 30/30 results in 2008-2010, in 2011, 24 of the 30 students cleared IIT JEE.In 2012, 27 of the 30 students,in 2013, 28 out of 30 students and in 2014, 27 of the 30 students cleared the prestigious IIT JEE examination. Anand Kumar does not accept donation for the programme. His team creates the fund by organizing evening classes in Patna.

One of this year's success stories was truly an inspiration.  “My father, Bhagwan Jha, is a driver in Kolkata. He wanted me to study, but had no resources,” Neeraj Kumar Jha told the newspaper. One of the 30 was selected for the University of Tokyo, and hence didn't opt for IIT. Expressing his joy at the offer, Anand Kumar said, "I felt really happy that he (Yoshino) has come. He said that if we send one student to Tokyo University, then they would give him full scholarship. Once the student has completed his course then he will present him as an ambassador from India so that more students are encouraged to come to Japan for higher studies. This will open avenues for our students in the foreign country. This is a proud moment for us."
Kumar dedicated his life to teaching the underprivileged after he couldn't afford the fees for Cambridge University, where he had been selected.

B'day Spl: Interesting facts to know about Lalu jee

Today is 67th Birthday of RJD president and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Lalu has a completely different side to his personality. He does not know his actual date of birth and relies on the one given in his educational documents i.e. June 11, 1948.
At the young age of 22, Lalu tasted politics by becoming the general secretary of Patna University Students Union in 1970. He became the pioneer of the student movement in Bihar.

With former Bihar Chief Minister, Satyendra Narayan Sinha's support, Lalu made it to 6th Lok Sabha representing Janata Party.
Lalu was only 29 when he won a seat for the Lok Sabha making him one of the youngest member of Parliament of his time.
There was no looking back for Lalu after that. Lalu's stance in Bihar politics was such that Muslims and Yadavs in Bihar became a sure shot vote bank for Lalu.
He won the trust of Muslims who were once a vote bank for Congress, but had lost their faith after the 1989 Bhagalpur riots. Lalu Yadav created a niche for himself in a span of 10 years.

Lalu became the frontrunner for the National Front in Bihar not only in the state Assembly election but also in the 1989 general elections. Lalu became the chief minister of Bihar in 1990. His excellence was such that his party's contribution in 1990 was recognized by the World Bank.
In 1996, the Fodder Scam came into the lime light in which it was revealed that an amount of Rs 9.50 billion was involved. His involvement led to his resignation from Chief Minister's post. Lalu with some other officials were convicted in the case.
His sudden resignation, because of a CBI probe and his imminent arrest, forced him to look for a dependable politician to hold the chief minister's seat, till he returned. He decided to anoint his wife Rabri Devi to the top post.
Politics was never Rabri's cup of tea which made her election as the chief minister of Bihar the most unforeseen act in the history of Indian politics.
Rabri, with negligible education could not read official files, and had to depend on advisers for each of her official actions. Her inexperience in the filed of politics invited criticisms, but the lady soon picked up the ropes of politics.

Positions held:

He is an absolute family man. Married to Rabri Devi for more than four decades, Lalu's affection for his family is noticeable.
Lau and Rabri have two sons Tej Pratap and Tejasvi and seven daughters - Misha Bharti, Rohini Acharya, Chanda, Ragini, Dhannu, Hema, Lakshmi.
Lalu named his eldest daughter, Misa which was the acronym for Maintenance of Internal Security Act. Lalu was one among lakhs of people were thrown into jails without rhyme or reason during Emergency. He was in jail at the time of the birth of his daughter, hence, the name - Misa.
Lalu's son Tejasvi Yadav is a medium-pace bowler representing Jharkhand in domestic cricket. He also became a part of the Indian Premier League by joining the Delhi Daredevils n the year 2012. After his career could not take a flight in cricket, he later decided to follow his father and stepped into politics.
At Lalu's Parivartan Rally, held in May 2013, he launched his sons in the corridors of politics.

Bollywood connection
Lalu has considerable amount of fan following in Bollywood. Director Mahesh Bhatt has even once said that Lalu deserves to be the next prime minister of India.
A movie called Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav was released in 2004 which had Lalu made a guest appearance.
