Microsoft Trolls Google, Type ABC.WTF, ABC.FAIL In Chrome
It took Google's 'Alphabet' less than a week to get blocked by a nation and accused of copyright infringement by a giant car-maker. Now it has managed to get trolled, by none other than Microsoft itself. Yep, Google's arch rival decided to have a moment in the sun and boy, they did!
We'll tell you how.
Microsoft Trolls Google, Type ABC.WTF, ABC.FAIL in Chrome
Type abc.wtf or abc.fail in your browser's address bar and it will take you to rival Bing search, Microsoft's search engine. It is a pun directed at Alphabet's unusually named official website abc.xyz.
Tech website Cnet quoted Microsoft denying any role in the domain troll. "Microsoft did not buy this domain and is not involved in the redirect to bing.com," a spokesperson for the Redmond-based software company said.
However, several tech websites reported that the IP server locations for both the URLs reveal that the domain is registered in a Redmond-based server.
Microsoft does have a history of attacking its rival. From 2012-14 it had run an advertising campaign called Scroogled, targeting Google's products and services.
For Alphabet, this is the third such trouble in its formation week. China blocked its website on the very first day, and then auto major BMW, which has a subsidiary by the same name, started an investigation into whether Google infringed any trademark rights.
Open your browser and search for abc.wtf. Or, abc.fail.
You will immediately be directed to something you definitely weren't expecting:
This. Really. Happened.
Microsoft did us all a solid by trolling Google today. They haven't yet accepted responsibility for this 'epic.troll'. We are just waiting for Google's retort. Oh, please let there be a Google retort!
