Google Doodle Celebrates 70th Anniversary of Spain’s Tomatina Festival
This sounds amazing. Once every year, for about an hour on the last Wednesday of August, thousands of people descend on the town of Buñol in eastern Spain to pelt each other with tomatoes as part of La Tomatina festival.
La Tomatina festival sees around 40,000 people pack the streets of the Spanish town of Buñol to hurl 40 TONNES of tomatoes at each other.
The event takes place every year on the last Wednesday of August and lasts for exactly one hour, from 10am to 11am.
There was a time when the Spanish government decided enough is enough. In the 50s, people were allowed to use the fruit in their cooking, and well, that's about it. However, Spanish civilians had other plans. In 1957, they mourned the death of the festival by carrying a huge coffin, inside which lay a large tomato. After this, the festival became official in Spain.
While the event begins at 11am local time, the official tomato throwing ceremony takes place once a participant climbs up a greasy pole and retrieves a slice of ham attached to it. Apart from this, tomatoes must be squashed before you throw them at others. And amid all the fun, you've got to make way for trucks, and finally, the revelry ends once the siren blares.
Many trucks haul the bounty of tomatoes into the center of the town, Plaza del Pueblo. The tomatoes come from Extremadura, where they are less expensive. The signal for the beginning of the fight is firing of the cannon, and the chaos begins. Once it begins, the battle is generally every man for himself. Those who partake in this event are strongly encouraged to wear protective safety goggles and gloves. In addition, they must squish the tomatoes before throwing for safety precautions.
Another rule is that no one is allowed to bring into this fight anything that may provoke someone into a more serious brawl, such as a glass bottle. It is highly frowned upon to tear someone else’s clothing. Somewhere between an hour and two hours, the fighting ends and the cannon is fired once more to signal the end. At this point no more tomatoes can be thrown. The cleaning process involves the use of fire trucks to spray down the streets, with water provided from a Roman aqueduct. People find water to wash themselves, most likely at the Buñol River.
After an one hour the fighting ends. At this point, no more tomatoes can be thrown. The cleaning process involves the use of fire trucks to spray down the streets, with water provided from a Roman aqueduct. The authorities seem more concerned with cleaning the town than cleaning the visitors, so some people find water at the Bunol River to wash themselves, although some kind residents will hose passers-by down. Once the tomato pulp is flushed, the ground is clean due to the acidity of the tomato.
There is limited accommodation for people who come to La Tomatina, so many people take the easier option of staying in nearby Valencia just 38km to Bunol by bus or train. In preparation for the dirty mess that will ensue, shopkeepers use huge plastic covers on their storefronts in order to protect them from the carnage.
The Google Doodle, created by Nate Swinehart, features an animated depiction of the revelry that about 50,000 people are expected to engage in on Wednesday — including the ham hoisted on top of a pole that must traditionally be untied and brought down before a single tomato can be thrown.
The festival is considered the world's largest food fight, that too using tomatoes !!
Microsoft Trolls Google, Type ABC.WTF, ABC.FAIL In Chrome
It took Google's 'Alphabet' less than a week to get blocked by a nation and accused of copyright infringement by a giant car-maker. Now it has managed to get trolled, by none other than Microsoft itself. Yep, Google's arch rival decided to have a moment in the sun and boy, they did!
We'll tell you how.
Microsoft Trolls Google, Type ABC.WTF, ABC.FAIL in Chrome
Type abc.wtf or abc.fail in your browser's address bar and it will take you to rival Bing search, Microsoft's search engine. It is a pun directed at Alphabet's unusually named official website abc.xyz.
Tech website Cnet quoted Microsoft denying any role in the domain troll. "Microsoft did not buy this domain and is not involved in the redirect to bing.com," a spokesperson for the Redmond-based software company said.
However, several tech websites reported that the IP server locations for both the URLs reveal that the domain is registered in a Redmond-based server.
Microsoft does have a history of attacking its rival. From 2012-14 it had run an advertising campaign called Scroogled, targeting Google's products and services.
For Alphabet, this is the third such trouble in its formation week. China blocked its website on the very first day, and then auto major BMW, which has a subsidiary by the same name, started an investigation into whether Google infringed any trademark rights.
Open your browser and search for abc.wtf. Or, abc.fail.
You will immediately be directed to something you definitely weren't expecting:
This. Really. Happened.
Microsoft did us all a solid by trolling Google today. They haven't yet accepted responsibility for this 'epic.troll'. We are just waiting for Google's retort. Oh, please let there be a Google retort!

India-born Sundar Pichai is new CEO of Google
India-born Sundar Pichai was named CEO of Google on Tuesday by the company's founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin in course of a re-organization that created a mother company called Alphabet.
Pichai, 43, a Chennai native who went to IIT Kharagpur and later to Stanford and Wharton, will take charge of a slimmed down Google (quickly dubbed Google Minus) that Larry Page said will be stripped of companies "that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products," which will all go into Alphabet. Page will be CEO of Alphabet.
Things you should know about Sundar Pichai:
He's the reason you may be reading this on Chrome
Google threw the tech world for a loop Monday when it announced it was separating its core business and its myriad other ventures into a constellation of companies that would all be part of the larger company Alphabet. Google founder and CEO Larry Page will now be the CEO of Alphabet. Replacing him at Google is Sundar Pichai, Google’s current senior vice president of products.
Though Page noted in a blog post that the new Google will be a “slimmed down” version of its former self, Pichai will still have plenty on his plate. Google will retain core businesses, including search, ads, Maps, apps, YouTube and Android, meaning that tens of thousands of employees will still be reporting to Pichai. The former consultant and Stanford University dropout has risen through the ranks of Google over the last decade to become the most visible face at the company, serving as the master of ceremonies at Google’s annual I/O event and leading up almost all of the company’s key consumer products.
Here are five key facts about Sundar Pichai, Google’s next CEO.
He’s the reason you’re using Google Chrome
Pichai started at Google in 2004 working on the search toolbar that the company puts in Internet browsers. He thought that Google should have its own browser, even though the company was still mainly known for its search engine. Pichai eventually spearheaded the creation of Chrome, which has surpassed Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the most popular browser in the U.S. The Chrome brand has since expanded to include a successful line of laptops and streaming devices.
He has slowly taken over almost all Google consumer products
After Chrome’s success, Pichai also came to oversee Gmail and Google Docs in 2011, according to a Businessweek profile. In 2013, he also took the helm over Android, perhaps the most important division at Google as the company battles Apple for mobile supremacy. In 2014 he was named the company’s product chief, bringing services like Maps and Google+ under his wing as well.
He’s Larry Page’s right-hand man
Page has increasingly relied on Pichai since starting his second stint as Google’s CEO in 2011. Last year’s restructuring had already made Pichai’s unofficial No. 2. Now Page will have even more time to focus on Google’s other big bets while Pichai manages the company’s core competencies. “Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together,” Page said in the blog post announcing Alphabet. “I know he deeply cares that we can continue to make big strides on our core mission to organize the world’s information.”
He’s a unifier within the company
With more than 55,000 employees, getting the different divisions within Google to play nice together is an ongoing challenge. Pichai seems to have a knack for it. Since taking over Android he’s made big strides with Google Now by creating interdisciplinary teams from the company’s Android and search departments. “I would challenge you to find anyone at Google who doesn’t like Sundar or who thinks Sundar is a jerk,” Googler Caesar Sengupta told Businessweek.
He’s the company’s first non-white CEO
Born in Chennai, India, Pichai will be the first CEO of Google that isn’t a white man. He studied engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur and came to America to study materials science and semiconductor physics at Stanford, though he eventually dropped out. He’ll join Microsoft chief Satya Nadella as one of the few minority CEOs in Silicon Valley.
Team All out for 3 Runs, Sets World Record
A cricket team from Birmingham Cricket League have written its name in history of cricket after bowling out their opponents for a staggering THREE runs.
A Perry Barr cricket team Pioneers A’s Sunday performance against Pak Pakhtoon have stunned the world as well as created a record for their league and may be a world record. This performance will be written in history of cricket and the glory goes to all players of Pioneers. Sunday in Birmingham Cricket League’s match of division 2 they bowled out their opponent Pak Pakhtoon in just 40 minutes and within 13 overs.
This also broke the previous record of the league which was created by Friend XI, six years ago, when they bowled out Unique Star for nine runs.
Pioneer batsman Imran Majid said: “When we rang the league, they didn’t believe us. We had to take the scorecard round to the chairman.”
Last month, a news also made a blast that a Cheshire league team Hasling bowled out their opponent team Wirral FC for three runs. That was taken as a world record.
But about that Imran said “That was village cricket, where sons, fathers and grandfathers could play in the same team. I really don’t know how competitive it was.”
Despite of a nursing injury their blaster bowler Khalid Sadiq took 7 wickets in just 7 overs and the other three wickets were taken by their bowler Mazar Ali.
In their innings pioneers scored 173 runs for loss of eight wickets in 40 overs and highest scorer was Jannaid(43).
But Pak Pakhtoon started their innings after tea at 5:30 pm and on their way back at 6:10.
From the three runs which is the total score of Pak Pakhtoon 2 runs was made by Imtiaz and Zafar Ali, both made 1 run each. And the other 1 run was an extra which came from a “no ball”. The rest of their batsman all got out for 0 runs.
Imran said “Pak Pakhtoon are not a bad side, In fact, we were worried after finding out in the previous game that one of their batsman got 199, One of our players, Janaid Khan, travelled from London and was worried about catching the train back, It was just one of those games where everything clicked”
After he asked that how will they follow and keep up this form he said “How will we follow that? We never will, probably. At the end, we didn’t say anything to the opposition because we thought they might be embarrassed, but, to be fair, they were very supportive. They came over to us and said how amazing it was”
The vice chairman Amzad Aziz when asked for some comments about the performance of pioneers he described their performance as a “Freak”
He said “It’s a major surprise because only two weeks ago Pak Pakhtoon scored 300 runs and one person got over 190. It was just a freak set of circumstances”
Pak Pakhtoon players are really shattered and depressed about their defeat and laying low after the match. But they are sure they will overcome this disaster and will be shine again.
This Thief Targeted The Wrong Girl
This young woman gets mugged under the subway, but wait! He doesn’t get away with it, she was on form and ready to show him who’s boss as she kicked the stuffing out of him!
The brave girl fought off the would-be subway thief and left him rolling round on the roll in agony. You go girl! The footage was recovered from a Russian subway, and judging by the passerby’s reaction to the man on the floor it is a scene all too familiar to commuters.
Whenever you have a lengthy wait at a train station it only take us to glance around to see how many people are engrossed in their smartphones. This young girl is doing just that, leaning against the wall when a horrible little thief snatches the device right out of her hand. Little did he know he had chosen the wrong girl to mess with. She knocks some sense into him with her handbag several times and with a few carefully placed blows he’s soon on the ground crippled in the pain he deserves.
She is quick to flee the scene after the ordeal, the gutsy heroine takes off with her stuff in tact within 20 seconds of them being taken from her. Trust me you don’t want to miss this it’s epic.

Obama Is Totally Drooling Over This 9 Year-Old’s Garam Masala Burger
From pushing Obamacare to mending America’s relations on the international stage, President Barack Obama has proven himself adept at handling a number of fiery situations. However, a ‘garam masala’ burger made by a 9 year-old Indian American, was too hot to handle for even him.
Shreya Patel from Illinois, impressed the President and the First Lady with her garam masala quinoa burger with raita at the recent Kids State Dinner hosted at the White House.
The only Indian-American to have been invited for the event, Shreya won the chance after participating in a national Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.
When President Obama stopped at her table, it’s fair to say that Shreya, accompanied by her mother Priti, was pleasantly surprised. And she managed to get the same reaction from the President with her spicy rendition of the burger
Shreya said, “I have watched my mom and grandma make all sorts of delicious food in the kitchen with an Indian twist since I was born. My grandma and I came up with this recipe together because we both love sandwiches.”
Although hosted by the First Lady, President Obama has been known to gate crash the event every year. How impressed were the First Couple with little Shreya? Well take a look at the review they gave here:
“You blew the judges away with your talent and creativity. You included fruits and veggies from every colour of the rainbow in your recipes. You used all kinds of ingredients flax seed — do any of the adults even know what flax seed is? Cumin, and we have yellow miso paste that was included in one of the recipes pretty sophisticated.”
Her Quinoa Burger dish was enhanced with garam masala, cumin, ginger and grated serrano chillies.

People Saw This Little Angel, They Were Scared. Until His Mom Told Them THIS!
Jameson is just a little boy like every other little guy . . .well almost! He has a rare condition that has left him looking a little differently.
And unfortunately, that means that sometimes kids treat him a little differently, too—sometimes not too nicely, although not always on purpose.
After some encounters with strangers, Jameson’s mom realized she could be silent no more. She knew that their experiences might help protect others from being teased or mistreated. But only if everyone who reads this, shares it to spread this very important message.
This isn’t just a message about one little boy, but about all people who are made fun of and singled out for their differences.
Here is his mother’s plea for you:
I want to begin by saying that I don't hold anything against these children, or their parents. I understand that it can be extremely awkward when your child is the one making fun or being mean to another child.
But, the next time this happens I hope these parents do more.
Because although I cannot take offense, I would be lying if I said it didn't hurt. It does. It hurts to see my child be made fun of, knowing that this will be a big part of his world the rest of his life.
By now you might be wondering what happened to prompt these words. Nothing has happened that hasn't happened before, and sadly that won't happen again. But, for some reason, it has just happened a lot in the last few weeks.
During a school Open House event, the entire school, K-5th grade, was corralled in the cafeteria to listen to opening remarks and welcomes. As we were walking into the crowded cafeteria we were immediately greeted by a little boy who pointed at Jameson, nudged his mother, and said he looked funny.
We paid no mind and continued to walk through the cafeteria looking for a spot to sit down. Shortly after we sat down two little girls and their mother sat across from us. One little girl looked at us, turned to her mother and said "He looks scary," pointing to Jameson. Her mother told her that wasn't nice to say, and turned around.
Last weekend, in the grocery store with my two boys, a mother and her son are walking down the aisle towards us. I see the little boy look up; I smile at him. He starts to laugh, and tells his mom, "Look mom, that baby looks funny," laughing. I look at his mother and she cannot even muster a word, her jaw hanging open.
As a parent I have been in situations where my child has done or said something inappropriate, so I understand the embarrassment.
I also understand that these children are not to blame. Think about it, we teach them from birth to single things out. Put a bunch of red blocks together, sneak a green one in, and them tell them to look for the green one, the different one.
Sort the shapes that only fit through the right hole. You'll never fit a round peg in a square hole. The round one is wrong. It's OK to notice differences. That's how we identify one thing from another. We teach what is by teaching what isn't.
But these are objects. We can single them out and choose the right one, the one that fits in. We can't do this to people; to children.
As a mother of a child who looks different, this is my plea to you:
If you are the parent whose child says another child looks funny or scary, don't simply say, "That isn't a nice thing to say."
While you are right, it's not nice, simply saying that and walking away still isolates my child.
The next time, follow that statement up and tell your child, "I'm sure he's a very nice boy, let's go meet him."
Please, come introduce yourself and ask my child's name. I assure you, we don't bite! My child is just like yours; he can be sweet, loving, throw temper tantrums, and be a handful. And I assure you, I am just like you; I am a parent learning my way through this.
If your child is curious and doesn't say anything mean but still notices he looks different, please, introduce yourself to us, ask us our names! Include my child in your world. I promise you, he's not scary, he's just a little boy.
To all the parents and children out there who already practice this, and to those who have purposely made a point to brighten Jameson's day when we have crossed paths: Thank you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I can honestly tell you I can remember vividly each encounter where a stranger has made a conscious effort to want to know Jameson and include him in their world. And I can bet he does too.
My 6-year-old amazes me when I hear him recount a memory from when he was 3 years old, so I am sure Jameson remembers the same.
If this story has touched you . . .if you’ve ever felt the pain of being “different”, SHARE this story, and inspire others to love EVERYONE like God would want. No matter how different people appear, we are all perfect in God’s eyes!

At 11, She Dumps Boyfriend & Becomes Internet Sensation
A Schoolgirl dumps her cheating boyfriend and becomes internet sensation, and she is just 11
Girls, Have you even been cheated by your boy friend? Then you can take a leaf out of his 11 year old schoolgirl. She will teach you the best way to humiliate your cheating boy friend and exact your revenge.
A boy named Madi Nickens had a 11 year old younger sister who was deeply in love with a boy. But some time later in their relationship she saw her boyfriend in the park with another girl( only god knows what they were doing there). She dealt the situation so coolly with out bursting into tears like other girls( Just Saying). Instead the elementary school pupil from Texas made sure it was he that was left crying into his Starbucks.
She bluntly ended their relationship via perhaps the greatest series of breakup texts ever composed by an 11-year-old.
She explains just why she is angry with her soon-to-be ex, who she says threw away two second chances and obviously lied when he said he loved her.
She ignores his pleas for forgiveness and orders him never to speak to her in middle school.
And then she delivers the zinger: “Ding ding ding oh what was that oh yeah the elevator cause your not on my level.” All Done and she won. Mission accomplished.

Indian Surgeon Dr Anand Kamat Re-attaches British Man's Head To Spine
LONDON: A 29-year-old British man, who had his head ripped from his spine in a horrific car crash, has miraculously survived after a rare operation done by an Indian-origin doctor.
Tony Cowan from Newcastle city met with an accident on September 9 last year, when his car hit a speedbump, spun out of control and wrapped around a telephone pole. Cowan's heart stopped and he had to be resuscitated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital under police escort. He had sustained a C2 fracture to his neck and complete spinal cord injury an injury medics have described as almost "unsurvivable", the Newcastle Chronicle reported.
And after scans showed he had no brain activity the decision was to turn his life support machine off. But after his partner of 10 years, Karen Dawson, mother Pepsi Cowan and the rest of his devastated family said their farewells, Tony opened his eyes and showed he was determined to live.
And he has amazed medics who say he is not brain damaged even though his head was snapped off from his spine and was only being held in place by tissue and muscle. Consultant neuro-surgeon Anant Kamat reattached Tony's skull to his spine with a metal plate and bolts in a rare operation and now Tony hopes to soon go home.
Tony's family is now raising money for equipment so he can leave the Hawthorns Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in Peterlee to return to a specially-adapted bungalow.
"The consultants had to make the decision to reattach his skull to his spine with a metal plate and bolts, they had never done an operation like it before and we were informed Tony would probably not survive but again he pulled through," his mother said.

Support Nepal Earthquake Survivors: An Easy Way to Donate, Facebook to Match up to $2 Million
People are coming together to support those affected by the earthquake that struck Nepal and impacted the populations of Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
Starting today, people on Facebook will see a message at the top of News Feed with an option to donate to International Medical Corps, which has emergency response teams operating mobile medical units to deliver critically needed medical care and medicines to the regions hardest hit by the earthquake. To do this, we are using our Donate feature, where people can donate directly to IMC to support their relief efforts on the ground.
Facebook will match every dollar donated up to $2 million. Facebook’s matching funds will be distributed to local relief and rescue organizations working to provide immediate and ongoing relief. Please go to facebook.com/nepalearthquakesupport to learn more.
In addition to launching Donate, Safety Check – a simple and easy way to say you’re safe and check on others – was activated on Saturday in large parts of Nepal as well as areas in Bangladesh, India and Bhutan. Since then, millions of people have been marked safe and tens of millions of people were notified that someone they know has been marked safe.
During times of crisis, we have seen people turn to Facebook to learn about what’s happening, share their experiences and support one another.
By offering tools to help people donate to support those in the affected areas and check on loved ones, we’re hopeful that together we can promote safety and help urgent resources reach those who need them.
